ANIMAL WELFARE LEAGUE

The Animal Welfare League Queensland takes care of approximately 10,000 strayed and abandoned animals a year throughout South East Queensland. If you are looking for a new dog (or cat, bird, guinea pig or rat!), have a look at all of the beautiful animals available at AWL.  And if you aren’t in the market for a new pet, there are lots of ways you can help out the AWL – fostering, volunteering, donations etc.  Check out the website for more information.

I have had the pleasure of being able to photograph a number of the (temporarily) resident dogs at the AWL shelter, including Chester “The Wonder Dog” who is a gorgeous Irish Wolfhound X Kelpie born with front leg deformities.  When he arrived at the AWLQ he was nine months old and had learnt to get around reasonably well over short distances but was unable to cope with any long distance treks.  The AWLQ appealed to its Facebook community who raised the money to purchase him a custom-made doggy wheelchair.

The gallery below includes photos of some of the beautiful AWLQ dogs – who have all since found their forever homes – including pics of Chester both in and out of his wheelchair:
